BOYOUNG KIM
Biography
Hailed as a gifted pianist with natural pianism and mature musicality, Boyoung Kim is one of the most sought-after pianists in her generation. After graduating summa cum laude at the Seoul National University under the tutelage of Prof. Hee Sung Joo, she completed Master's degree, Performance Diploma and Doctoral coursework at the Indiana University with the renowned pianist, Prof. Arnaldo Cohen. Now she is pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate at the University of Music & Performing Arts Vienna(MDW) with Prof. Christopher Hinterhuber. Kim has been also taught by Menahem Pressler, Pascal Devoyon, Sergei Babayan, Martin Canin, Boris Berman, Edward Auer, Boris Slutsky, Lev Natochenny and other admired great pianists.
Since her outstanding solo recital debut at the age of 11 at the Kumho Art Hall and appearing as a soloist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Guri Philharmonic Orchestra, Indiana University Orchestra, and Orchestra Filarmonica del Mediterraneo, Kim gave numerous solo recitals and chamber recitals in Europe, Northern America and Korea including the Carnegie Hall(New York), Landmarks Center(Indiana), Seoul Arts Center(Seoul), Sejong Center(Seoul), Bösendorfer Salon(Vienna), Gesellschaft für Musiktheater(Vienna), to name a few.
Recently she won the Star Grand Prize in the Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition. She also received the Grand Prix in the Hong Kong-Asia Open Piano Competition(Hong Kong), First prize in Estonian National Academy of Music & Theatre Competition and International Mozart Competition Vienna, Second prize in the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition, International Clara Schumann Competition, Les musicales du centre International Music Competition, Third prize in the 20th International Friedrich Kuhlau Competition, and Third prize & Audience prize in the Gegen den Strom Piano Festival Competition(Germany).
Kim began her piano study at the age of 4. She graduated from the Yewon School and the Seoul Arts High School studying with Prof. Sook-Ryeon Park, a famous Korean pedagogue. With her enthusiasm for chamber music and music education, Kim studied collaborative piano and music theory as a minor at the Indiana University and served as an Associate Instructor(2016-2021) teaching secondary piano classes. Kim is also a member of the PoAH Piano Society, Ensemble Blooming, Lucete Piano Duo and ensemble blank.

피아니스트 김보영은 예술의전당 음악영재아카데미를 수료한 후 예원학교, 서울예술고등학교를 최우수 졸업, 서울대학교 음대를 전체수석으로 졸업했다. 이후 미국 인디애나대학교 음대에서 석사, 전문연주자과정, 박사를 전액 장학금을 수혜하며 졸업했고, 오스트리아 빈국립음대에서 최고연주자과정을 졸업했다.
주희성, 박숙련, 김나정, Arnaldo Cohen, Jennifer Lim, Christopher Hinterhuber을 사사한 그는 일찍이 부산음악콩쿠르, 틴에이저, 음연, 음악저널, 음악춘추, 한국쇼팽콩쿠르, 국민일보·한세대, 성정난파, 한국리스트, 수리콩쿠르 등 국내 유수의 콩쿠르들을 모두 석권하며 두각을 나타냈고, 해외에서도 홍콩-아시아 오픈 피아노 컴피티션 1위, 파니 멘델스존 국제콩쿠르 1위, 비엔나 모차르트 국제콩쿠르 1위, 프란츠 리스트 센터 국제피아노콩쿠르 1위, 오르베텔로 국제피아노콩쿠르 1위를 비롯, 인디애나폴리스 마티네무지칼레 콩쿠르 2위, 클라라슈만 국제콩쿠르 2위, Gegen den Strom 페스티벌 콩쿠르에서는 3위 및 청중상을 수상하며 국제적으로도 연주력을 인정받았다.
Menahem Pressler, Sergei Babayan, Pascal Devoyon, Martin Canin, Boris Berman, Edward Auer, Boris Slutsky, Lev Natochenny 등 세계적인 피아니스트들의 마스터클래스에 선발되어 가르침을 받았고, 이태리 Amalfi Coast Festival, 독일 Festival Gegen den Strom, 오스트리아 Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg, 부산국제음악제, 연천DMZ국제음악제, 서울대학교 International Piano Academy 등 국내외의 다양한 페스티벌에도 참가했다.
만 11세에 금호영재콘서트를 시작으로 금호영아티스트콘서트, 이원문화센터, 영산그레이스홀, 영산아트홀, 티엘아이아트센터, 서울 예술의전당, 세종문화회관 등에서 다수의 독주회를 가진 이후, 미국 유학 중에는 Indiana를 중심으로 Landmarks Center Grand Hall, Simon Music Center Auer Hall, Ford-Crawford Hall 등지에서 다수의 협연과 독주회, 실내악 연주를 가졌다. 작곡가 최재혁의 Micro-Interludes for Solo Piano(2020)를 세계초연, 유럽초연 하였고, 오스트리아 비엔나의 Bösendorfer Salon, Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, Theater am Kurpark Oberlaa 등의 초청으로 개최한 독주회 및 이탈리아 Festival Pianistico Internazionale del Mediterraneo에서의 협연도 호평을 받은 바 있다. 서울필하모닉, USP오케스트라, 구리시향, Indiana University Student Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica del Mediterraneo 등과도 협연하였다.
독주 뿐만 아니라 실내악과 교수법에도 관심이 많아 인디애나 음대에서 반주법과 음악이론을 부전공했다. 2023년에 열린 International Friedrich Kuhlau Competition의 Flute and Piano Duo 카테고리에서 3위로 입상하며 실내악주자로서의 자질또한 입증했다. 서울대 재학 중에는 교원자격을 취득했고, 인디애나 음대에서는 2016년부터 2021년까지 Associate Instructor로 재직하며 피아노 실기와 그룹 클래스를 지도했다.
현재 서울사이버대학교 대우교수, 예원·서울예고, 계원예중·고, 덕원예고, 인천예고, 세종예고, 충북예고에 출강 중이며, 사단법인 PoAH 피아노연구회, 현대음악 전문연주단체 앙상블블랭크, 앙상블블루밍, 루체테피아노듀오, 듀오슈벙의 멤버로서 활발한 연주활동을 이어오고 있다.
